1. Scope
This policy covers data generated or processed in connection with:
- Account registration, identity verification (KYC), and profile management
- Wallet balances, ledger entries, top-ups, and withdrawals
- FairPay bids, P2P exchanges, and remittance transfers
- Fraud monitoring, AML/CTF screening, and regulatory reporting
- Customer support, notifications (SMS, email), and device/session security
2. Categories of data we process
- Identity data — name, contact details, government ID, verification results
- Financial data — wallet activity, bank references, transfer amounts, FX rates, fees
- Transactional metadata — timestamps, statuses, reference numbers, corridor and currency pairs
- Technical data — device identifiers, IP address, app version, authentication events
- Communications — support tickets and service notifications related to your account
3. Purposes of processing
- Execute and settle payments and currency exchanges you initiate
- Maintain accurate ledgers and reconcile with banking and partner systems
- Verify identity, prevent fraud, and meet AML/sanctions obligations
- Operate security controls (including multi-factor authentication)
- Improve reliability, support, and product experience
- Respond to lawful requests from regulators or law enforcement
4. Legal and operational bases
We process data as needed to perform our contract with you, to comply with legal obligations (including financial crime laws), and where appropriate for legitimate interests such as securing the platform and improving services — balanced against your rights.
5. Retention
Transactional and compliance records are retained for as long as required by applicable financial and AML recordkeeping rules, and otherwise only as long as needed for the purposes above. Identity and account data are kept while your account is active and for a limited period afterward where legally required or needed to resolve disputes.
6. Sharing and processors
We may share data with:
- Payment processors, banks, and money-services partners needed to complete transfers
- Identity-verification and fraud-prevention providers
- Cloud hosting, messaging, and operational service providers under contractual safeguards
- Regulators, auditors, or law enforcement when required by law
We do not sell your personal data.
7. Cross-border transfers
Because FairPay supports cross-border remittances, data may be processed in Canada, the United States, and other countries where our partners or infrastructure operate. We apply appropriate contractual and technical measures when transferring data internationally.
8. Security
We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. No online system is perfectly secure; please protect your credentials and report suspected compromise promptly.
9. Your choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain personal data, and to object to some processing. Some requests may be limited where we must retain records for legal or AML reasons. See our Privacy Policy for how to exercise these rights, or use the Delete account page to request account deletion.
10. Changes
We may update this Data Policy from time to time. The Effective Date will be updated when changes are posted. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or by email.
